FOR SUNDAY March 14, 2010
BIG, BIG Day this Sunday (the 14th). Read all about it!!
FIRST – REMEMBER TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS AHEAD ONE HOUR SATURDAY NIGHT!! You’ll want to be on time for all of the wonderful things going on this Sunday!
We start with breakfast at 10AM! Lots of varied dishes this time, so something certain to please every palate. Come and enjoy the company of your brothers and sisters in Christ as we share the first meal of the day! We’re prepping for LOTS of people, so come on out. Don’t worry about whether you spoke to an elder or not about coming – we’re saving a place for each and every one of you!
At 11AM, our Worship service with distinguished guests (like former pastors Howard Fritz and Fred Westermaier and a visitor from our Presbytery – along with a few other surprises!). Our Bell Choir will be playing, too! Then, near the end of the service, the dedication of the newly renovated portion of our building. It’s absolutely fabulous and we’re excited to show it to everyone!
Immediately following Worship, we’ll have a coffee hour and give tours of the new space. Wait till you see it! It’s been worth the wait, we promise! And we thank each and every one of you for your support throughout the renovation. Come and have coffee (or tea – or punch) and a bite to eat with us. We’ll even have a special cake for the occasion (can’t have a party without a cake!).
Don’t miss this extra-special Sunday in the life our church! We want to share it with ALL of you!!
The following Sunday (3/21) will be thrilling, too! Sunday School at 9:30AM, and then Worship at 11AM with our choir presenting this year’s Easter Cantata – “Victorious!” by Sheldon Curry. Chalie Gallagher will narrate, Diane Gallagher has a solo and Elisabeth Eastman plays the piano fantastically as the accompaniment to this wonderful Cantata. It’s sure to be a crowd pleaser! We’ll also have a quick Congregational Meeting (to elect one more deacon) AND (if you can stand a little more exhilaration) – we’ll welcome some new members!
As you can see – Barrington’s First Presbyterian is certainly alive and well! Please come and share in the excitement God is sending our way!

Building News:
Barrington’s First Presbyterian Church’s long-awaited renovations are almost completed, and the excitement is mounting as the congregation prepares for the “grand opening” of the new Sunday School rooms, pastor’s study, handicap-accessible rest rooms, elevator, and a beautiful gallery, which will greet our church goers and visitors.
The church accepted the challenge of raising the funds to embark on this long-needed modernization of the 100-year-old building, and at last we are about to present the results to the community for their inspection.
The Resource Management Committee, led by Bob Finch and Bob Kessler, continued the project, originally planned by their former pastor, Fred Westermaier, and a committee chaired at that time by Richard Rettinger, to its successful completion.
Barrington’s First invites all residents of our town, as well as the surrounding communities to come, see, and join us as we begin this second decade of the “Two Thousands” as a revitalized congregation in a beautifully renovated home.
Sunday School News:
Sunday (3/14) – remember – no Sunday School. You’ll be marked “Present”, though, if you and your family come to breakfast that day!
Remember to keep filling up your fish boxes with your Lenten Offering! We’ll be collecting them on Easter Sunday morning.
Speaking of Easter Sunday – the Big Kids have convinced Mrs. Gallagher that we can have an Easter Pageant that includes the Easter Bunny! It wasn’t easy, but they did it! And, we all believe it will be an amazing pageant. So, mark your calendars early for Sunday, April 4th – and come at 9:30AM to see this wonderful and imaginative pageant!

Concluding Thoughts
So – did last week’s helpful hints for God’ children of all ages inspire you this week? Are you doing nice things for your fellow earth-trotters? How many of you think that at some point, even the rich and famous become too big for their britches to be kind to someone else? Your editor read this article in the Metro today:
Renee Zellweger found out that having paparazzi follow you everywhere can be a good thing. While the actress was in a Starbucks in Santa Monica, a photographer noticed that the meter at Zellweger’s parking spot was going to run out, so he popped a few coins in, according to Us Weekly. When Zellweger found out, she headed back in the store and grabbed a $100 gift card, giving it to the photographer as a thank you. On the card, she wrote, “Wow. Thank you so much for the kindness. Warmly, with gratitude. Renee.”
ANYONE can find ways to be nice during Lent. Tell us your story. We’d love to share it in the coming weeks!
May God continue to richly bless you all in the coming week.
