From the Pastor’s Desk
Edmund writes: I had a very good friend in England. He was a Methodist minister and would write meditations for Radio 2. I would do the same for Radio Scotland. His name was Frank Topping. I don’t know if he is still writing, but I hope so. Instead of writing something myself for this Newsletter I thought I would pass on a meditation of his which I read today. I think you will enjoy it. He starts off by quoting a verse of scripture.
“Do not be anxious what you are to say”.
I have so often thought ‘If only I had the right words. If only I was clever enough’. In a moment of crisis I am feeble, afraid to speak. It is not merely a failure of nerve, but rather a failure of faith.
Lord, I am not brave. I am not the stuff that martyrs are made of. I would rather not hear, not see. I would rather turn away. I would like an undisturbed life, but there is no escape for I cannot love you and be totally silent.
Lord, let me trust in your promise that in dark times I will not be alone. Help me to realize that your Holy Spirit will come to my rescue, will provide the words. Give me faith to rely on you, to believe that you hear my cry.
I have no strength but your strength; no wisdom but your wisdom; no words worth hearing, unless you speak.
Lord, in that hour be in my heart and on my lips.

Family Information Form
We would like to update our family information so we can continue to acknowledge the birthdays and anniversaries of our members in the monthly newsletter and weekly GoodENews. If you don’t see your special days in the newsletter, you probably never filled out one of our family information forms. We’d love to include you in our monthly wishes, so just email Patti Pawling, Clerk of Session, and give her the dates of your birthday and anniversary to be included. If you’d rather call, you can reach her at . If your address or phone number changes, please give her that updated information too, so you can be sure to continue to receive the newsletter and other important announcements. Thanks!
This year, World Day of Prayer is Thursday, September 9th. Our church will be participating and will be open to everyone from 8am to 8pm. Anyone wishing to help can call our coordinator for this year, Ethel Hawkins .
There will also be a sign up sheet in the back of the church each Sunday morning leading up to September 9th where you can leave your name and phone number. Please consider signing up for a time when you might be able to help – and help is simply being at the church and making sure anyone wishing to come knows how to get to the sanctuary and feels free to pray for anything that might be on their hearts and minds.
PRAYER IS SO IMPORTANT!
Here’s hoping everyone can devote time to pray to our God.
He is waiting to hear from us.
United we stand, divided we fall!
God Bless You All!!
A Message from The Hoseys
Hello everyone!
This year Bill and I and 4 friends will be participating in the MS City to Shore bike ride under the team name of “Ginny Ginny Bang Bang.” It will be held on 9/25 & 9/26 and it will consist of, for our team, a total of 75 miles. We opted for the one way ride this year to see how well we could handle it. As you may know, my mom, “Ginny” and her sister both have MS. We are blessed that mom has a medicine available to her that has kept her symptoms to a minimum. I wish I could say the same for my aunt who has been battling this disease for more than 15 years and everyday has now become an unbelievable struggle.
We would first like to ask for your prayers as we train and prepare for this event. Second, we are asking you for a donation to help find a cure for this debilitating disease. I know this will be a challenge for the team, but really nothing compared to what those with the disease go through everyday. We thank you in advance for all of your prayers and support.
God Bless, Bill and Karen Hosey
A Message from The Robenolts
Kelsey Gallagher, daughter of Wayne and Phylicia Robenolt, graduated Haddon Heights High School in June. She graduated with an 82 average. She excelled in softball and track. She has now been accepted into the CCTS Cosmetology program with a start date of September 8th. In addition, she has received a fully paid grant for this program. We thank God for this great accomplishment and ask for prayers that Kelsey will continue to amaze us with her God given talents!
Deacons News
To all the Deacons,
Just to remind you all that our next meeting will be after Church on September 26. Everyone circle the date and your calender and try to attend.
To the congregation,
Just a reminder that the flower chart is still up in the narthex and there is still space left for that special day. We will also be celebrating the Lord’s Supper on Sunday, October 3rd, and we hope that everyone can come and join in the celebration.
Thank you!

CHOIR News

in the sanctuary choir loft. The rehearsals are open to all singers,
and those under high school age must attend with another adult family

encouraged to join.
The Bell Choir will begin rehearsals on September 22, and are held
every Wednesday in the church sanctuary from 7 – 8 P.M. Anyone who
can already read music and is interested in joining the bell choir
should contact David Eastman.
The women’s circle will meet at 1PM on September 9th.
Our devotion is presented by Jean Yeats. This year, the ladies will be studying
the book of Esther.
For additional information please speak with Dot Pawling.
ALL WOMEN ARE INVITED TO ATTEND.

100th Anniversary Restoration and Renovation Project
Preserving Our Past and Building a Vision for Our Future
Since our Dedication Service in March, work has not stopped on the restoration and renovation of our church building. We are now into “Phase III.” The original brief description of this phase was that it is “General cosmetic improvements. This is the entire painting of the exterior, interior painting and refinishing throughout and new floor coverings throughout.”
As you can see Phase III was designated to cover Cosmetic Finishes for most of the church building. However there are some important items that should be added.
Following is a brief description of items that need to be addressed:
Install French drains with sump pumps in the basement fellowship hall
Install heater/air-conditioning in the three new rooms
Repair or replace the rain gutters
Power washes prior to painting the entire exterior of the building
Install heat in the two new restrooms
Put new floor coverings in the three new rooms
Remodel the down stairs fellowship room and hallway (walls and floor)
Move the church office upstairs to room 20 and or remodel the existing room
Clean and paint the entire Sanctuary
Put new rugs in the Sanctuary
Remodel the Kitchen
To date some of these items have been completed.
French drains with sump pumps have been installed along most of the South wall and about half of the West wall. These were needed because during heavy rain or snow-melt water would seep into the down stairs fellowship room. After many years the base of the wall paneling was starting to rot.
An efficient heater/air-conditioning has been installed in the new Pastor’s office.
We have hired a painter who is now (mid-August to late August) power washing and painting the entire outside of the church building. He is also repairing some damaged gutters. Weather permitting he plans to be done by the end of August.
The money we now have in the face lift accounts is enough for the power wash, painting and gutter repair. There will be some funds remaining to complete a few of the remaining items, but not all. The Renovation and Restoration Committee ask that the congregation continue to give to the building fund so all that is needed can be done.

Christian Education News
Rally Day is right around the corner!! We hope you’ve had a safe, fun, relaxing summer. But, we’ve missed you and can’t wait to see you!!
At 9:30am on Sunday, September 12th, we will have our opening exercises for this year which will include registering your child for this year. Registration will take place outside the sanctuary and then the children can enter the sanctuary for the start of the Sunday School year.
This year, our theme will be, “Where in the World is Jesus?” We’ll spend some time getting to know the globe – and how much things have changed since Jesus’ time. We hope this will be an exciting and educational year for your child – as we hope it is every year! And, don’t forget, we have an adult Sunday School class as well. You won’t have to simply drop off your child – you can stay and learn along with our faithful adult students.
Also for Rally Day, 2010 – we would like to put together a yearbook of sorts. Something for each student to keep – filled with pictures and memories of the 2009/2010 year, as well as years past. If you have any photos that you would be willing to share, please see Laura or Jeremy Bupp. We will take copies and get the originals back to you. Thank you and God Bless Barrington’s Sunday School!
Fall Family
Wow! Where did the summer go? Whether we want to accept it or not, fall is just weeks away and although summer is a time of fun and relaxation, fall can be just as exciting! In our church, September means the beginning of a new Sunday School year, choir performances at worship, and great opportunities for fellowship.
Hopefully you were able to attend some of our fellowship breakfasts last year as they were a big hit. Some of us missed the traditional Fellowship Hour after worship though, so this year we’re going to do both! Starting on Sunday, September 12, 2010, which is also Rally Day for Sunday School, we will have a traditional Fellowship Hour immediately following our 11:00AM worship. Then in October we will alternate with a breakfast. It sounds like the best of both worlds, don’t you think?
So please join us as we kick off our new year of activities with worship and fellowship on Sunday, September 12. Hope to see you there!
